Lauren A. Tetenbaum, LCSW, JD, PMH-C, MSCP is a licensed psychotherapist and advocate specializing in supporting women through life transitions. Through her counseling practice, Lauren provides therapy to women and couples in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Florida. She also facilitates groups and workshops to empower women in corporate settings and trains other mental health professionals through the Fair Play Policy Institute and Nurturing Mamas Network on issues impacting women, including peri/menopause, the maternal mental load, matrescence, and other areas of reproductive psychology.

Lauren regularly contributes thought leadership on women’s rights through speaking engagements, writing, and digital media. Her areas of expertise include perinatal mental health, gender equity, working parenthood, and reproductive healthcare, which have been featured in numerous platforms including The New York Times, CNN, USA Today, and various podcasts. Millennial Menopause: Preparing for Perimenopause, Menopause, and Life’s Next Period is Lauren’s first book; acclaimed by menopause healthcare experts, women’s rights advocates, and best-selling authors, it has been called a “a smart, relatable, and research-backed guide for women balancing careers, relationships, and caregiving while navigating hormonal change” by activist Eve Rodsky among other accolades. Lauren has served as a keynote speaker or panelist for professional organizations and private companies including the 92NY, Clifford Chance, L’OREAL, the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, the National Association of Perinatal Social Workers, the New York Bar Association, Skadden, and psychiatry departments of renowned schools of medicine.

Lauren has always been personally and professionally dedicated to supporting women and girls. While completing her Bachelor of Arts (magna cum laude) at the University of Pennsylvania, Lauren taught sex education to West Philadelphia students and volunteered as a Women’s Law Project telephone counselor, providing resources on topics including abuse and divorce. She then simultaneously achieved Master of Social Work (from New York University) and Juris Doctor (from the Cardozo School of Law) degrees in her hometown of New York City, all while completing internships at nonprofits for immigrants, adolescents, and domestic violence survivors. She was a leader of her Law Students for Reproductive Justice and Advocates for Battered Women student clubs. She also served as a student divorce mediator for the New York State Unified Court System’s Office of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Lauren, a first-generation Cuban-American, then practiced as an immigration attorney for global firms in the UK (where she was also the Secretary, Newsletter Editor, and Legal Walk Leader of the American Women Lawyers in London networking group) and the US. As a lawyer, she assisted clients of myriad backgrounds navigate complex government systems to embark on their next life chapter. She maintained an active pro bono legal practice, counseling clients fleeing persecution in their home countries, abusive romantic partners or parents, or other trauma. Lauren also worked in personnel roles in which she focused on professional development and mentoring, specializing in balancing career and family. She successfully led the advocacy for a more comprehensive parental leave policy at two firms. While helping coordinate the global pro bono program of a top international law firm, Lauren worked closely with clients in need, including LGBTQ individuals and legal/social service organizations serving women and youth. She pivoted to private psychotherapy practice to provide maternal mental health services to millennial moms and career and life coaching to young women.

Lauren currently lives with her husband, two children, and Cavapoo in Westchester, New York, where she is actively involved in her community. Lauren has served on the board of her local League of Women Voters and as a volunteer for Postpartum Support International and the Red Tent Fund. She is a member of the Hudson Valley Birth Network, The Menopause Society, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the International Society of Reproductive Psychiatry, and the Women’s Mental Health Consortium. She is also a board member of Moms for Moms, a Champion for The Mental Health Coalition, and a member of the Medical Advisory Committees of the National Menopause Foundation and ThisIsMenopause.
